  1. The adventure continues in The Universe - 3029!
  2. Continued from The Universe - 3028... The Inner Sphere is a region of interstellar space surrounding Earth to a radius of roughly 450 - 550 light-years, generally demarcated by the outer borders of the "Great Houses." Within this region of about 2 million stars, there are approximately 2000 inhabited planets. Beyond the Inner Sphere is the Periphery. While a variety of smaller states have come and gone, the Inner Sphere has historically been dominated by five 'Great Houses' who rule over their separate dominions: House Davion (Federated Suns), House Liao (Capellan Confederation), House Marik (Free Worlds League), House Steiner (Lyran Commonwealth), and House Kurita (Draconis Combine). The leader of each Great House claims to be the rightful successor to the rule of the Star League, and so the nations the Houses rules over are known as the Successor States. The space surrounding the Inner Sphere contains a number of independent nations, known collectively as the Periphery. The largest of these nations (the Outworlds Alliance, Taurian Concordat, Magistracy of Canopus, and Rim Worlds Republic) predate the Star League and rival the Successor States themselves in size, but are vastly inferior economically and militarily. More moderately sized nations, such as the Marian Hegemony or Bandit Kingdoms, also lie near the Inner Sphere. The Periphery contains countless other independent nations, many consisting of a single star system each and rarely playing a significant role in Inner Sphere politics. The mostly uncharted space beyond the nearby Periphery states is known as the Deep Periphery and contains numerous pirate havens and lost Star League colonies. 3029 was an eventful year in the Inner Sphere. For a timeline of key events, refer to Sarna.net | 3029. From the farthest reaches of the outworlds to the heart of the Inner Sphere, this is the place to stake your claim in the universe!
  3. MRB Dossier, Rev I Adam Wolf in combat armor, circa 3067 Full Name : Adam "Gunman" Wolf Birthdate : June 22, 3044 Birthplace : Outreach History : Adam's history is somewhat vague, until about 6 years ago. He was not actually born on Outreach, but aboard a DropShip disguised as a Civilian transport travelling to Outreach with supplies to refit the Wolf Dragoon's. Unfortunately they were attacked by pirates before reaching Outreach and took heavy damage. Only a few members of the crew survived and managed to fight off the pirates. Among the survivor's was Adam and his parents. They settled down on Outreach and began living a happy life working in the Mech Construction Facilities located there. His parents, realizing that Adam's potential with BattleMechs far outgrew their own, were able to enroll him with the Wolf's Dragoons. He was sent to their Hiring Hall in Harlech at the age of 16 to be officially entered into their ranks. By the age of 18 he had finished extensive training on his homeworld of Outreach and began to gain valuable field experience in many combat situations. He quickly rose through the ranks and became a Lt Cmd. by the age of 22. He then joined a Mercenary Company called the Legionnaires who were sponsored by Wolf's Dragoons. The Mercenary Company was quickly growing and expanding under the command of his Uncle John "Eagle" Wolf, younger cousin of Jaime Wolf. At its peak under John's command the Legionnaires consisted of 2 full lances (8 units), as well as 6 Battle Armour squads (24 units). Unfortunately the Mercenary Company had a fatal run in with Clan Jade Falcon, the unit was nearly decimated, John "Eagle" Wolf was KIA, while his command lance was shattered and Bravo Lance was crippled. The unit was forced to withdraw where command was passed down to Adam "Gunman" Wolf, who was thereby promoted to Captain. Shortly thereafter a man by the name of Benjamin Edward Maxwell joined the Mercenary unit after leaving ComStar for reasons unknown. Within a short time the unit came under the joint command of both Adam and Maxwell, as they were long time associates although previous ties are unclear. Since then the Legionnaires have accquired a Star League era dropship, and have improved their base of operations on Tau Ceti IV. Having an impressive unit history, and a reputation for getting the job down, despite nearly any odds, the unit has a large array of contracts available and are never at a lack for work. Updated Information since 3069 Having been absent from the Legionnaires for a period of several months while involved in Prototype testing within the Draconis Combine, Adam Wolf returned to the Legionnaires' new base of operations on Sheratan at a most unfortunate time. The Word of Blake launched an assault against Sheratan in which the Legionnaires fought valiantly alongside the Davion planetary militia and ComStar units to repel the invasion. During the conflict Wolf's Vulture omnimech was critically damaged and as a form of compensation the Federated Suns gave him a Pheonix Hawk PXH-3D to replace the Vulture. After a few small operations with the Pheonix Hawk Adam proceeded to modify the medium 'mech, equipping it with a Gauss rifle and an Enhanced Imaging cockpit while maintaining its mobility and armour levels. While no records indicate that Adam Wolf has the augmentations necessary for full use of the Clan based cockpit, the advanced computer and tactical data still provide a considerable advantage. During an extensive operation within the Draconis Combine Adam acquired a BattleMaster chassis, through considerable modifications the Legionnaires and Adam modified the BattleMaster into an Omni design which is currently Wolf's Command 'Mech.Equipment : 2 standard coolant vests 1 emergency coolant vest (backup/spare) 5 plasma pulse grenades 1 box of standard anti-personnel Frag grenades (20) 1 Emerald Gemmed Dragon Katana (Traditionally made family Hierloom) 6 Clan Military Power Packs (120 rounds/pack) 3 High Capacity Military Power Packs (6 rounds/pack - used for 60mm particle projection launcher) 1 MAG-18* [*] - Magnetic Assualt Gun (MAG) uses power packs for ammunition clips. Since then the Legionnaires had a peroid of booming prosperity in which many of their assests were able to be replaced and/or upgraded. But as of late the unit has been plagued with financial issues, due in part to a set of failed OPs that degraded their proficiency rating with the MRBC greatly and thus have very few contracts available at the time being. Equipment : 1 - XXL coolant vest (fits over combat armor) 1 - emergency coolant vest (backup/spare) 10 - 64 effective round clips (2x 32 round clips attached together) 12 - 50mm grenades for grenade launcher (4 smoke, 4 High Explosive Fragmentation, 4 Incendary) 1 - LMAR-14M combat rifle [*]- Light Modular Assault Rifle 14 Magnum (LMAR-14M) is a high quality assault rifle with a modular design. There are 3 versions of the 14M which include Standard, Tactical, and Heavy Weapons mod. All versions use a 32 round clip, customized by Wolf by attaching two clips back to back (one facing up, one facing down) to allow quick reload for an effective 64 round clip. Standard mod uses iron sights, adjustable stock, and a standard barrel. Tactical mod uses 4x scope, adjustable stock, and standard barrel with collapsible bipod. Heavy Weapons mod uses reflex sight (red dot), fixed stock, over/under style barrel with 50mm grenade launcher. [*]3 types of ammuntion available - Saboted Light Armor Piercing (SLAP) rounds can penetrate heavier armor. Smaller depleted uranium slug has greater velocity and energy than standard sized AP round. Effective against vehicle armor, including battle armor. - High Explosive Armor Piercing (HEAP) rounds can penetrate armor using ablative effect. AP round penetrates through some armor then high explosive charge goes off breaking away more armor. Effective against light vehicles or light Battle Armor. - Hollow Point Armor Piercing (HPAP) rounds are anti-infantry rounds. Hollow point tip reacts as per normal on soft target, with added penetration from AP slug. Hollow point tip flattens on impact with hard target but armor piercing slug punches through causing larger hole in armor and greater tissue damage. Effective against infantry, both armored and unarmored (battle armor excluded). (For TRO purposes, 50 SLAP rounds or 60 HEAP rounds do 1 'mech/BA scale damage, 1 HEF grenade does 1 'mech/BA scale damage)
  4. The members of MercNet are a group of loyal BattleTech fans who have dedicated a considerable amount of time and resources to bringing the lush universe put forth in the many incarnations of the series to an Internet-based roleplaying forum. Assuming the roles of mercenaries and various other rogues, the members of the group participate in various for-profit contracts throughout the Inner Sphere circa 3028, at the outbreak of the Fourth Succession War. Charles Maxwell and Baroness Octavia Incendio, both ardent BattleTech fans, founded this incarnation of the group after being inspired by the MechWarrior RPG International group on Facebook, along with Charles' previous involvement in other Internet-based roleplays over the past decade and a half. Their aim was to consolidate their two in-universe timelines into a series that added new characters and new plot twists to the already-established fictional timeline, while remaining consistent with major historical events of the time. If you're interested in becoming a member of this dynamic group, please don't hesitate to contact us in the Messaging Center. We're always looking for the best and brightest; new blood and new ideas are what keep our group strong. From all of at the home of MercNet, we thank you for your interest in our group. We hope you'll consider joining us and helping us to keep the BattleTech legacy alive.

  6. C R A Y V E N C O R P O R A T I O N Company Profile Since 1775, when Crayven Corporation founder Lord Robert Crayven looked toward the heavens and predicted that one day, mankind would sail amongst the stars, the mission of the Corporation has always been one of innovation. Throughout the centuries, the Crayven Corporation - known as Crayven Nautical Technologies until 1961 - has been both a pioneer and a leader in the research and development of breakthrough advances in the aerospace and defense fields. The Crayven Corporation was initially established in the mid-twentieth century on Terra, borne out of a need for an overarching parent organization to administer its nautical technologies, aviation, and fledgling spaceflight divisions. The aviation division's foundations were first laid in 1905, when, recognizing the breakthroughs of brothers Orville and Wilbur Wright, then-CEO A.P. Vandergraff issued a directive to begin forays into flight technologies. The Nautical Technologies (NauTech) division, being already well-equipped and well-experienced in the fields of both civilian and military research and design, was chosen for the task. Accordingly, a divisional restructuring was undertaken, enlarging and expanding NauTech to incorporate the facilities and staff needed to launch the Aviation branch, while simultaneously continuing the mission of the nautical division as laid down by Lord Crayven himself. Crayven Nautical Technologies thus became Crayven Nautical & Aerospace Technologies (CNAT), and remained as such for the next fifty-six years. In 1961, American President John F. Kennedy issued a call to the United States Government to undertake a program with the ultimate objective of landing a man on the moon before the end of the decade. Then-CEO of the Crayven organization, Nathaniel Martinson, inspired and intrigued by the President's challenge, and also realizing the potential lucrative markets that voyaging into space could open up, called upon CNAT to begin research into space technologies immediately. Nautical research was restored to its own division once more, and the Crayven Nautical & Aerospace Technologies division became Crayven Aerospace Technologies (referred to by its staff as 'the CAT'). Its insignia, the image of a lion, overlaid atop the Crayven family crest, was symbolic of this affectionate nickname. The Aerospace Division's mission proved to be a tremendous success, and, in the centuries to come, the Crayven Corporation's trifecta of proficiencies in nautical, aviation, and spaceflight cultivated many advances and breakthroughs in their respective fields. In 2768, during the early years of the Amaris Civil War, the Crayven Corporation ceased to be. Its assets were seized and liquidated by the Amaris insurgency to finance the Usurper's war machine, and its corporate records largely destroyed. It would not be until nearly 247 years later, in 3015, when William Kauffman, inspired by the ancient organization's incredible legacy, would raise Robert Crayven's corporate insignia above the sprawling metropolis of Meredith on New Earth, and see the Crayven Corporation reborn as a tactical logistics company, providing armed transport services in a partnership with the New Earth Trading Company. With the outbreak of the Fourth Succession War in 3028, the Crayven Corporation saw its services in high demand, and by 3029, had acquired substantial capital due to its unorthodox strategy of being one of only a few civilian couriers willing to operate in even the most active of combat zones. Following a wildly-successful IPO on the Terran Stock Exchange, William Kauffman, seeking a new market to disrupt, executed a major stakeholder agreement with the Interstellar Expeditions organization, which saw the Crayven Corporation providing the company with pro bono transport services to sites of discovery in exchange for a percentage of salvage rights to any technologies discovered. Though the Crayven Corporation's shareholders initially balked at the decidedly irregular business agreement, holding exclusive partner salvage rights to Star League-era technologies quickly proved itself to be a worthwhile investment. Following the sudden ousting of CEO William Kauffman in 3035 in the wake of a disastrous and costly Interstellar Expeditions contract, the Crayven Corporation saw several interim CEOs before senior board member Trent Jamison assumed the role of Chief Executive in 3040. The original headquarters of the Crayven Corporation, located in Meredith, New Earth, overlooking the Cabot River, circa 3050 On January 1, 3045, the Crayven Corporation formally acquired Aegis Division, a mercenary organization with which the Crayven Corporation had long-standing ties. On March 7, 3050, the invasion of the Inner Sphere by the Clans of Kerensky signaled a new era of turmoil for the coreward worlds. Seeing an opportunity to use the Crayven Corporation's well-established trade connections and deep understanding of diverse and lost technologies to answer the emergent need for rapid military development across political lines, then-CEO Trent Jamison established the Crayven Securities division. Headed by Charles Maxwell, who had become an employee of the corporation just five years prior when it acquired his mercenary unit, the Securities division functioned initially as an independent technologies exchange, with no ties to any political, mercenary, or Clan organizations whatsoever, providing a proxy organization through which a buyer could solicit the purchase of a particular asset and be matched anonymously with a seller offering the desired goods. Through the double-blind exchange process, in which the Corporation facilitated all communication and logistics, ensuring that neither party ever met, communicated, or learned the identity of the other, the buyer and seller were afforded total safety and plausible deniability, while being able to complete mutually-beneficial transactions that would otherwise be impossible. Via this trade mechanism, the Crayven Corporation was able to acquire two of the first intact Daishi-class OmniMechs in the Inner Sphere. Identified as former Clan Ghost Bear assets, the OmniMechs were codenamed Tyrant and Fury, and assigned to the corporate headquarters on New Earth. The Securities division profited first and foremost by charging exorbitant service fees to clients participating in the technological exchange program, as well as to those utilizing the company's advanced research and design facilities to evaluate the viability of their trades. Furthermore, the company imposed a fifteen-percent surcharge on all technology transactions handled through the organization. Within the fortified walls of the Securities laboratories, plans were laid, prototypes were tested, and secret technological exchanges between high-profile clients were carried out, all behind an iron curtain of total anonymity. By 3053, the Securities division had become the most profitable business unit in the Corporation's portfolio. To maintain this profitability, however, the company's executive officers realized that diversification of available services would be required to attract new patrons and keep existing clients. Crayven Securities' business model was thus expanded to offer intelligence gathering services, mercenary operations, and black ops to its clients, and three new business units within Crayven Securities came into being to fit the multifaceted plan - Intelligence, Tactical Operations, and Special Projects. Crayven Intelligence - Surveillance, Espionage, and Intelligence Gathering The largest of the Crayven Securities divisions, Intelligence's primary responsibility is the collection and analysis of tactical, technological, and political information pertaining to all of the Crayven Corporation's targets of interest, as well as those of its clients. Intelligence also communicates with Tactical Operations to assist in the coordination and execution of insertion strikes against targets specified by clientele, and against those which pose a potential threat to the Crayven Corporation, its subsidiaries, and its interests. Because the Intelligence division employs the very latest in cutting-edge intelligence-gathering technology, as well as a wide network of special agents trained in data gathering and the art of espionage, the division is consistently able to deliver quality intel at affordable prices. Tactical Operations - Mercenary Affairs Tactical operates on several levels. Its primary responsibility is to serve as a consulting forum for clientele seeking guidance in assessing, planning, and executing tactical operations against threat-class and opportunity targets, as well as those engaged in ongoing campaigns which require a high level of skilled planning and logistical coordination. Tactical also provides pro bono consulting services to the Crayven Corporation itself, and is responsible for the training of all operatives in the use of Crayven Corporation military hardware, as well as the MechCommanders who see to their well-being in the field. Tactical Operations serves as the active mercenary unit of the division, and is responsible for carrying out operations assigned by Tactical. Special Projects - Classified At this time, Crayven Securities, Incorporated cannot comment on the activities of the Special Projects division, due to client confidentiality agreements. Through 3067, Crayven Securities was actively involved in a variety of projects across the Inner Sphere and Clan space. In 3068, much of the infrastructure of New Earth was obliterated in a nuclear firestorm when the world was invaded by the Word of Blake. The entirety of the Crayven Corporation's planetary assets were destroyed, and much of its corporate leadership, including CEO Jamison, were killed. Through the quick thinking of Charles Maxwell, the head of the organization's intelligence unit, the Securities division's Union-class DropShips Half Moon and Terra Nova, the Outpost-class DropShip Foundation, and the Excalibur-class DropShip Dreams of Avarice were able to evacuate during the attack, carrying with them what remained of the Corporation's assets. As the senior-most surviving member of the Crayven Corporation's leadership, Charles Maxwell thus became its acting CEO. Realizing that the Securities division was the only remaining functional business unit, and thus, the lifeblood of the company, Charles re-grouped his remaining staff and quickly set about rebuilding. Divesting the company of all of its assets except for those critical to the technologies exchange, R&D and mercenary operations, Charles reorganized the company fully as Crayven Securities, Incorporated. By 3069, the Corporation had purchased several blighted city blocks in Gellen's Heights, Sheratan, and transformed them into the organization's rebuilt corporate headquarters, employing nearly 500 Sheratan residents and boosting the local economy significantly. Between 3070 and 3071, Crayven Securities, Incorporated acquired the Legionnaires mercenary unit, and was subsequently stricken with an internal political upheaval which saw Charles Maxwell displaced by Richard Saxon as CEO. However, after evidence of illegal activities by Saxon and his staff were presented to Sheratan Governor Erica Ravenswood, Saxon was jailed and Charles Maxwell reinstated as Chief Executive. Under Maxwell's leadership, Crayven Securities, Incorporated developed a breakthrough cure for Rissikin's Disease and, despite encountering resistance from its shareholders to doing so, donated it to the public domain. Following Charles' retirement in 3072, Crayven Securities, Incorporated continued with its core mission under the leadership of Marcus Pierce until the end of 3081. In order to remain in business with the rise of the Republic of the Sphere, in 3082, the corporation shifted its focus from weapons development and mercenary operations to assisting in the decommissioning of war machines and the re-configuring of combat equipment for peacetime applications. Many of its production and refit facilities were committed to this task, and the organization was able to sustain itself through the latter half of 3097, when the demand for this type of work tapered off to such a degree that it was no longer profitable. On April 18, 3098, Crayven Securities, Incorporated suspended its military operations indefinitely. In an attempt to sustain the company, corporate officers developed a new business plan which effectively transformed Crayven Securities, Incorporated from a defense contractor into a for-profit civil agency. The new business model placed the company's focus on architecture, terraforming, and construction, and its services were marketed to worlds attempting to rebuild their infrastructure following the massive destruction wrought by the Word of Blake jihad. The term 'Securities' was dropped from the company's name, and, in an homage to the organization's origins, 'Construction' was inserted in its place. Crayven Construction provided its services to hundreds of worlds between 3100 and 3135, never turning away a single client. In the spirit of its founders, the company never discriminated against any of its clients for any reason. Unfortunately, as the Inner Sphere entered a new dark age with the fall of the HPG network, old rivalries were re-kindled, and the sociopolitical climate of the Inner Sphere became far more hostile than it had been in nearly a century. The corporate officers of Crayven Construction realized that the company could no longer function with the free-spirited independence it had once known, and that, ultimately, a side would have to be chosen. In 3136, the decision was made to no longer accept contracts from entities not loyal to the Republic of the Sphere. On April 16, 3136, for the first time in its 81-year history, Crayven Construction declined a contract. Two days later, on April 18, 3136, a Blank calling himself 'John Maxwell' appeared at the gates of the corporate headquarters, disagreeing with the direction in which our directors were taking the company, and making wild claims that he was the true heir to the Crayven director's chair. Mr. Maxwell presented obviously-forged documents that appeared to be from the late Charles Maxwell, a former Chief Executive Officer who passed away in 3092, supporting the legitimacy of his claim. After an extensive investigation, it was determined that absolutely no credibility could be given to Mr. Maxwell's claims, and he was banned from the Crayven premises. Mr. Maxwell was later exposed as a Steiner sympathizer when he was witnessed aboard a transport near the Lyran capital world of Donegal. At this time, Crayven Construction is pursuing a lawsuit against Mr. Maxwell to recoup the massive expenses incurred investigating his false claims, and the tremendous amount of business lost due to the bad publicity generated in the press as a result of his allegations. If you want to know more about the Crayven Corporation, its history, and the kind of men and women who work for us, please give us a call, visit our metasite, or pay us a visit! We're always looking for the best and brightest; new blood and new ideas are what keep our company strong.
