Leif seemed nice to Mechwarrior Diana even though she was freeborn and seemed to wish her well, and they seenmed to for somewhat of a friendship.

Leif desired the Bloodname Pryde so did Diana. Though freeborns are not normally allowed to take on Bloodnames, Diana used the case that since she was the daughter of two trueborns she was close to being trueborn. Khan Marthe Pryde finally allowed her to with the forced nomination by Ravill Pryde, and despite complaints from many members of the Warrior Caste.

Leif and Diana both competed in the Bloodname contests. They became the final contestants. They fought a 'Mech battle in a network of caves. Diana piloted a Nova in order to have a greater combat challenge than using her typical Warhawk, and Leif piloted a Black Lanner.

They played games of cat and mouse in the maze of caverns, then finally began to fight. Diana finally backed Leif into a lake of underground molten oil. His 'Mech began to sink and Diana wanted to save him, but he refused to eject or get help. What surprised Diana was that he was unhappy to lose the Trial to a freeborn, since she thought he had accepted her for who she was. MechWarrior Leif's defeat Diana won her Trial of Bloodright and gained the Bloodname Pryde.
