Creating your character

Your character can be just about anyone, so long as they fit well into the Cyberpunk setting. If you’re not sure what sort of character you’d like to play, or would like to create a friend, colleague or family member of an existing character, feel free to chat with us about it on Discord or an out of character thread.

When a new character joins the story, it’ll be easiest to bring them into the plot if their level of ability is similar to that of the other characters. Life on the edge is all about challenge, and a character with top notch skills in multiple areas (like V often has in the Cyberpunk 2077 video game) might find things too easy.

Multiple characters are allowed, and there is no hard limit on the number. A single character will probably be easiest to start with, but once you’ve found your feet in the setting, feel free to create more if you like wearing multiple hats.

For inspiration and to get an idea of what sort of character fit well in a cyberpunk story, see Who Lives in Night City?

A basic character sheet

Full Name:
Alias:
Gender:
Age:
Height:
Weight: (or general build)
Ethnicity:
Date of Birth: YYYY-MM-DD
Place of Birth:
Occupation:
Residence:
Affiliations: (employer, membership in a gang or nomad clan, notable friends or allies, etc.)

Physical Description: (describe your character’s appearance, especially things other characters might notice about them)

Fill out as much of the above as is applicable, and write a short (or long) bio about your character’s history, motivations, and anything else you want to include. If your character has any uncommon cyberware or equipment, please include this, too.

Pictures of your character are optional, but encouraged. If you have them, they can be photographs, game screenshots, or drawn in any style. If you want help, Sammy Voss (who drew Edwin Talbot and his own character) might be able to draw a character portrait for you.

There’s more?!

Additional profile sections can be added right away, later, or not at all - they are fully optional. If you use comments on your character sheet thread to separate the sections, you can link them to your forum profile to make icon links appear next to your name at the top of your posts. This feature is available for these sections:

  • Profile (the above template)
  • Lifepath
  • Associates (friends, family and colleagues)
  • Stats and Skills
  • Equipment
  • Cyberware
  • Cyberdeck
  • Finances
  • Surprise me

Some of the above links are available to logged-in members only because they contain excerpts from the Cyberpunk RED source books. Once you create an account and log in, you will be able to read them.

You can also add any other information you feel like including. If you’d like a character sheet icon link to a section that isn’t on the list yet, ask Sammy Voss and he may be able to add one.

Surprise Me!

A "surprise me" section is a place to list things you’d like to write about your character experiencing at some point, but

If it’s okay with you for others to play as a friend, family member or other person mentioned in your character’s bio, you can request that as a surprise, too.
