New MechAssault Game

I was cruising the Wiz Kids MechWarrior site recently and noticed that they are planning a new MechAssault title called Phantom War for the Nintendo DS to be released at the end of this year. Also some students at a design school have gotten permission from Wiz Kids to make a short BattleTech film in CGI. Nifty!

Now hopefully it will be very popular and somebody might try to make a bigger budget film for the more rabid fans. cool.gif

Or make a certain company want to rekindle a certain project that involved BattleMechs. MW5 Please!!! tongue.gif

Yes, I too dream nightly of MechWarrior 5! Alas, I feel WizKids and Microsoft have decided to take the path more traveled after the scent of the all mighty dollar. Sigh...
MechAssault I was garbage. MechAssault II was even worse (despite much-touted promises to the contrary). I have no intention of purchasing the latest release.

I'm at least gratified that MechWarrior: Age of Destruction is getting more BattleTech-esque and finally developing an engaging storyline, but I think it is high time for another PC-based release (even if it is garbage that can be modded into something better).

I agree that MechAssault was only distantly related to BattleTech. I would love to see the resurrection of the MechWarrior series, or better yet, a new Cresent Hawks game!

The fiction for the MechWarrior collectable miniatures game has definiately gotten better, and it seemed WizKids has finally settled on some form of storyline. I just wish they would do the detailed sourcebooks for Dark Age that FASA used to do (and FanPro still does) for Classic BattleTech. They really enrich the background story of the universe, which is my favorite aspect of the game. It's what seperates BattleTech from any other giant robot game. Unfortunately, WizKids seems to be aiming at the pre-teen market these days.

Having said all that, I'll still probably buy the new MechAssault title! I'm a sucker for all things robo...

Thanks for the links, Ron.
